IMMERSED
This photographic series aims to capture the essence of a dancer moving to music. When a dancer moves with passion, the music surrounds them and moves through them to feel as if it is a part of them.
The lights allude to the idea of music immersing the dancer. The photographs also reference stage performance, through their high energy and vibrant colour.
I used long exposure and a pitch black lighting studio to create the effects in the photographs.
I moved through the frame spinning various laser lights around in the studio, then shone large studio lights on my model as she came into frame and danced to create a blurred glow. I then used quick flashes from the studio lights as she posed in specific positions to create stark dynamic shapes. Then I would close my camera's shutter.

SOLACE
A series that focuses on the raw emotion and energy of a dancer.
Often dance photography highlights only the 'perfect' moments of a performance. In reality there is so much dynamic timing and emotion going on every time a dancer moves, and before the final piece there is a lot of experimentation and practice. It's difficult to express or understand this through one frozen image.
My final curation consists of poses that I think feel less composed, and more natural and experimental, using flour/paint to reference emotion and energy. This could be more transparent of a dancer is during practise.
